Dallas Mavericks point guard Shane Larkin suffered a broken ankle in Summer League practice and could miss the next two to three months, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Larkin was the No. 18 overall selection in the 2013 NBA Draft.
Larkin was thought to be immediate help for a Dallas team that sorely lacked competent point guard depth last season, but the Mavericks went on to load up in the backcourt during free agency by signing Jose Calderon and Monta Ellis. As it stands, Larkin likely would have had a hard time finding minutes during the regular season, but it’s still an unfortunate blow to a rookie looking to make a name for himself during Summer League.
Larkin, who turns 21 years old in October, averaged 14.5 points and 4.6 assists per game as a sophomore last season at Miami. With Larkin sidelined, all eyes will be on fellow rookie Ricky Ledo during Summer League. Ledo, a shooting guard, was a second-round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, selected No. 43 overall.
