Today we have Siddhartha Joshi, a Popular Travel blogger from India (Pune, Maharashtra) and owner of Sid-TheWanderer.com, One of the blog that has been consistently rated as Top Blog ( in travel and living category ) from the country ( India).
He is one of top Instagrammers to follow in India. and his recent photography got featured in Huffington Post.
Let’s learn from his experience and start this interview.
1. For the people who don’t know about you, Can you tell us a little about yourself and your blog?
I am a designer, traveller, and a travel blogger who loves people more than everything else. I derive my passion by interacting with the people and learning more about them and their cultures through stories – I consider myself a curator of stories 🙂 I am also extremely passionate about inspiring the world around me to travel more, as I truly believes that only travelling can break barriers and make us more tolerant of our differences. I hope sometime in my lifetime, I could throw my passport in a bin and travel freely across the world 🙂
The Wanderer is a travel and living blog from India. It’s a space where I share stories of my travels from across the world, along with travel and photography tips. My hope is that by sharing these stories I will be able to inspire more people to travel and explore the world even more.
2. Why did you choose the Blogger as the blogging platform?
It was the most convenient at the time. I already had another blog on Blogger and all my pictures were hosted on Picassa. Also, it was quite popular five years back when I started my blog.
3. What is it that made you stick with Blogger platform throughout the years?
I think I am just very used to the platform. Also all my pictures are hosted on google so making a move to any other platform seems difficult.
4. Every website has a story behind it. Tell us story of sid-thewanderer.com. What was the motivation behind starting this Blog?
The Wanderer happened more by chance, as I was sitting alone one cold afternoon in Almora in the Himalayas and thinking about ways to spend my evening. I was already sharing my travel stories with friends and family and many had told me that they found them very inspiring. And suddenly i thought about making a new blog on travel. At the time, I had no clue about the big wide world of travel blogging both in India and abroad and it was a very humble beginning from my end.
5. How do you manage to work and still get a chance to travel to these amazing places?
I travel on almost all weekends. Plus I get invited by people all over the country (tourism boards, hotels, brands etc). Also having a regular job gives me a constant source of income which allows me to take trips to places of my choice.
6. Do you keep up with latest SEO & Google updates?
Yes I do, but there is loads to learn out there.
7. Your photography skills are really good, how did the learning process happen to you?
I was always interested in camera and photography, right from my childhood days when I used my dad’s film camera. However, it was the exposure to photography during my design education which made me look at the world differently and made me a much better photographer.
8. What’s next for you, are you working on any projects or products we should be looking forward to?
Yes, I am working on two different projects right now. I recently started my own YouTube channel on Travel called Sid the Wanderer. Its in a nascent stage, but I intend to put in much more hard work in it and take it forward.
Apart from this, I am doing another project called ‘Tell me your Dream’ where I meet a new person everyday and collect their dream. And then I share this dream with their story on Instagram and my blog as well. Its a 365 days project which will continue till 32t December 2015.
Give us the behind the scenes exclusive – something you haven’t announced yet anywhere else!
I might do an exclusive road trip in India sometime this year! 🙂
9. If there was one thing that you wish you knew before you started the blog, what would that be?
I think that would be be SEO and its basics. Also, I think I should have known about professional travel blogging right from the start 🙂
10. Where do you see WordPress (if you are not aware of WordPress then you can switch it to ‘Blogging’) Five years from now?
I think blogging in general will evolve and become bigger and bigger. However, the platforms will keep evolving over these years. I already see Facebook becoming a mini-blog for many bloggers. I also think video blogs on platforms like YouTube will explode and become even bigger.
